MEDIEVAL ROTTE
From the 10th to 11th centuries the instrument bacame shorter in length and frequently resembles the figure-of-eight version of the rotte as shown in the illustration Cod. Lat. 2599, State Library, Munich. It is made from one piece of hollowed sycamore or plane tree, with an added front in Lebanese ceder. The yoke is partially hollowed, housing the wooden tuning pins. The bridge is made of bone. It has D-shaped soundholes.
